NEW YORK (CNN) -- In the latest round of top-level fashion magazine musical chairs, Bonnie Fuller is leaving Cosmopolitan to take over its rival, the smaller Glamour magazine, as editor-in-chief. Fuller is used to filling big publishing shoes: It was just 18 months ago that she took the reins at Cosmopolitan, the life's work of legendary editor Helen Gurley Brown.
Now Redbook Editor-in-Chief Kate White will take over the helm of Cosmopolitan, becoming its third editor is 33 years. Fuller's Glamour spot is being vacated by Ruth Whitney, who is retiring after 31 years. A successor at Redbook has not yet been named.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Funnyman Jon Stewart is returning to his cable roots, signing an estimated $1.5 million per year, four-year deal to take over from Craig Kilborn as anchor of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show." With Stewart slotted to take over the spot in January 1999, Kilborn may soon be free to take over from Tom Snyder as host of CBS' "Late Late Show."
It's an ironic deal, as Stewart was until recently the odds-on favorite to inherit Snyder's 12:35 a.m. time slot. Stewart, whose first breakthrough came as the host of his own MTV late-night talk show, was one of the early hosts of Comedy Central's now defunct "Short Attention Span Theater," and was the only person ever to fill in for Snyder on "Late Late Show."

PHOENIX (CNN) - Rocker Tommy Lee has cut a deal to avoid spending more time in jail for allegedly attacking a security guard during a post-concert melee last year in Phoenix. The Motley Crue drummer, sentenced to 30 days for those charges, will receive credit on the sentence for time already served in California on an unrelated charge stemming from an attack on his estranged wife, former "Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson Lee. Lee will also pay $800 in fines for the incident. "He just wants to get on with his life," Lee's lawyer said.

Sheen

MALIBU, California (CNN) - Actor Charlie Sheen received probation instead of jail time after admitting to a California judge that he used drugs while on probation. The judge said he would "err on the side of rehabilitation" rather than put the former "Wall Street" star behind bars. He noted the actor had voluntarily divulged information about his drug use and had not been arrested.
The 32-year-old son of Martin Sheen had been on two years' probation after pleading no contest to knocking his then-girlfriend to the floor in 1997. Sheen's probation will now run until June 2000.

MIAMI (CNN) -- The much ballyhooed Planet Hollywood International Inc. has posted a second straight quarter of losses, feeding fears that the global theme restaurant chain may have too much on its plate. The splashy eatery chain features movie memorabilia and is almost more famous for its celebrity investors, including actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. Analysts have said the company's managers focused too much on expansion at the expense of day-to-day operations at the 100 Planet Hollywood restaurants and merchandise stores. Plans to open 300 restaurants by 2003 have been dropped.
