Weiland
|
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Police have finally caught up with Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland. Weiland was arrested Tuesday in an area west of downtown Los Angeles after missing two court dates related to drug charges against him, police said. An arrest warrant had been pending against the rock musician for nearly two weeks, after he missed a second court date in a drug possession case.
Weiland, 30, posted $250,000 bail and was released Wednesday morning. He was due in court August 12. Weiland apparently missed the court dates because he was undergoing detoxification at a drug treatment facility, said his attorney. He was arrested in September 1997, and again in June of this year on various charges, including heroin possession.

ADA, Oklahoma (CNN) -- A class of seventh graders at Ada Junior High School will be heading to a Hanson concert after winning an all-expenses-paid trip to Illinois for a concert by the pop band. The kids won by sending in 560 box tops from Kellogg's products. The nationwide competition awarded the five classes which sent in the most. The Ada class finished fifth.
"I never thought we would win," said Lesley Claxton, who is in the class. "I figured that other schools would send in thousands of box tops. I didn't think we had enough." Hanson, the teeny-bopper pop band that rose to fame with the song "MMMBop," hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Allen
|
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (CNN) -- Enough tooling around -- Tim Allen is ready to start his engine. The actor who stars in the sitcom "Home Improvement" will drive a Saleen Ford Mustang Sunday in the first-ever West Michigan Grand Prix. An estimated 33,000 people have purchased tickets for the weekend event, but Allen's appearance is expected to boost attendance by as much as 25 percent.
Allen's driving has been in the news for two reasons: He has raced professionally for four years in the World Championship T1 series, and is part-owner of the Saleen-Allen RRR Speedlab racing team. He also pleaded guilty in 1997 to drunken driving and checked into a rehabilitation clinic as part of a court-ordered sentence.
