A CNN WorldBeat Report
ATLANTA (CNN) -- They've been friends for a long time, this diverse group of musicians. But Bonnie Raitt says that somehow they never found time to tour together. So she rounded up buddies Jackson Browne, Bruce Hornsby and Shawn Colvin, and they formed their own supergroup, à la a short-lived Cream, for a month-long tour.
The project began with a goal of touring for just two weeks, Raitt says. Then two weeks turned into four. "It's a dream come true," she says. "It's just nonstop, one great song after another."
The tour is scheduled to wrap up at the end of September, in George, Washington, after wending its way across the country. Earlier stops have included Atlanta and Chicago.
The singers are performing songs they recorded individually. For example, Colvin and Raitt might sing backup on Hornsby's "End of the Innocence," while Hornsby and Browne back up Raitt for "Something To Talk About."
To keep things fair, they stick to a playlist. "I think by its very nature, with four or five principals with their own agendas, you have to have a set list," says Hornsby.
Instrumentalist David Lindley and rhythm ace Wally Ingram support the group. The result: a band with formidable depth.
