(CNN) -- Kenny Loggins has been entertaining music fans for three decades, starting out by writing songs for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1970, before teaming up with Jim Messina to score with hits like "Your Momma Don't Dance."

Then in the '80s, Loggins went solo and became king of the soundtrack hit, with "I'm Alright" from "Caddyshack," the title track to "Footloose," and the "Top Gun" track "Danger Zone." All told, Loggins has sold over 22 million records.

Now Loggins is turning his hit-making skills towards the Christmas genre with his new album, "December."

"It's a very old-fashioned, kinda throwback record," says Loggins, who wrote four songs on the album, including his continued collaboration with his wife on "Angels in the Snow." "We've written a book together and we wrote about a half-dozen songs for the last album together."

Loggins performed Mel Torme's "The Christmas Song," one of the cuts on his Christmas album, on CNN recently.
