Disc 1:
The opening cuts of "Tracks" are, quite fittingly, the 1973 audition tapes for Columbia Records, word-heavy Dylan trips like "Growin' Up" and "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd St?" Right off the bat it was apparent that this guy was hugely talented and itching to get it all out at once. Or, if you will, he was ready to "burst just like a supernova."
The tumbling verbosity is utterly electrifying. An exciting career was ahead of him at this point, and you can hear that he fully realizes it. Then you get live renditions of surrealistically goofy charmers like "Bishop Danced" and "Thundercrack."
After that series of opening salvos, you'll probably need a drink of water, but be warned. It's not all that long until you're immersed in the muscular drama of "Rendezvous" and "The Iceman," both of which are enough to make even the uninitiated pass out.
