Hot music? It's 98 Degrees and rising

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Some artists wait to be discovered; others work hard to get discovered.
The Motown band 98 Degrees did the latter, and now they're heating up record charts with Billboard's No. 5 single, "Because of You." It was released off the Ohio-based band's sophomore effort, "98 Degrees and Climbing."
The quartet were first discovered backstage at a Boyz 2 Men concert -- where 98 degrees tried to sing their way in and pitch their demo tape. But at first they received a very cold reception.
"We kept singing for the security guard," says singer Jeff Timmons. "And the lady who was in charge of the promotion for the concert was like, 'Give it up guys. You're not getting backstage, period. You're not getting backstage.'"
But the band did get played on an L.A. radio station while at the concert, and they were heard by their future manager and Montel Jordan. The rest is music history, as correspondent Mark Scheerer reports.
