Corey Glover shows new colour with 'Hymns'

From Correspondent Mark Scheerer

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Corey Glover, the charismatic former lead singer of the early 1990s Grammy-winning band Living Colour, has reinvented himself with a debut solo release.

In "Hymns," Glover mixes cool crooning with some of the old raging sound he is famous for, to create an eclectic blend of music.

And there's another change in Glover -- his hairstyle. Gone are the sweeping dreadlocks; they have been replaced by a shorter, and redder, cut.

"I'm insane, it's definitely insane," Glover told CNN's Mark Scheerer. "I like the red hair, obviously, and it's going to stay red for a while."

One thing remains the same with Glover: The stage gyrations that became his trademark when Living Colour climbed up the record charts with "Cult of Personality," and opened for the Rolling Stones.

Fame is fleeting

But he's less famous now, and thankful.

"I'm just going shopping. Just going walking around. And I get mobbed by, at that point, about four people," Glover said of his more well-known days. "And they ask me for an autograph, and I said, 'Fine, no problem.' Four people turn into eight people. Eight people turn into 80 people and there's all these people surrounding me. And it's like, 'I have no anonymity.'"

Glover's "Hymns" was released by Arista Records and is available in major record stores.
