Johnnie Mnemonic: Purge it from the cinematic system. Do the pre-cyberspace thing -- read the William Gibson short story on which this mess was based and imagine what a great movie it could have made.

And while we're in cyberspace, let's note The Net. Sandra Bullock starred as a dweeby computer whiz who gets tangled up in a massive on-line conspiracy that nearly costs her ... everything! Bullock is a charmer, but this movie seemed very old-fashioned in style and pacing.

The summer's other "high-tech" thriller was Virtuosity, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Crowe had a great time as a psycho, super-killer who escapes from virtual reality into the real world. Washington was dour (and less than convincing) as the ex-cop who has to track him down. Bloody. Boring. And sooooooooo predictable!
