Hewitt dares her tormentor to show himself in "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer"

Hewitt says 'I Still Know' scarier than the first

From Correspondent Paul Vercammen

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- It's the sequel of the moment, with the title of the moment: "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer."

But the horror flick that hits theaters this Friday has another selling point, in the form of one of Hollywood's hottest young actresses. Jennifer Love Hewitt returns as Julie, the good-hearted teen who brings out that killer instinct in others.

She says this film is scarier than its predecessor, "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

Other titles they tried for this slasher flick:

  • "The Man with a Hook" (fake working title)
  • "I Still Know"
  • "I Know What You Did Two Summers Ago"
  • "I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Sequel"
  • "I Know What You Did Last Summer... The Story Continues"
  • "I Know What You Did Last Summer 2"

  • "What makes this one much scarier is this one is allowed to be sort of wild and violent and psychotic because it all takes place in Julie's head, which is no longer filled with any sort of reality ... just this man (who wants to kill her)," Hewitt says.

"I Still Know..." capitalizes on the wave of hip horror films started by Kevin Williamson's "Scream" (1996).

Star of music and TV, Brandy makes her film debut

This one incorporates a popular young music star into the cast: Brandy, in her first movie role.

"I'm so psyched and so crazed about it because I thought my face was going to look weird on the big screen," she says. "But no, it was great. I loved the movie."

Mekhi Phifer play's Brandy's love interest.

"They knew what they were doing in putting me and Brandy in the film, because I definitely think that it widens the people that will come to the film and check it out," Phifer says.

Matthew Settle is another new recruit on this sequel's cast, and Freddie Prinze, Jr., returns to play Hewitt's love interest.

The actors say filming was fun, although many of the scenes are set in the rain.

"There was even one scene where I was supposed to be dry and I ended up being wet so it was like I was soaked the whole time," Prinze says.

Producers are hoping that movie fans soak up the frightening action. If the movie is a success, you can guess what's coming next.

"In a horror film, anything is possible," says Hewitt. "I don't think horror films ever end."
