HOUSTON (CNN) -- Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones was rushed to a hospital after taking a tumble off his horse Friday afternoon during a polo match on a Texas ranch, but he was not seriously injured, his doctor said.

After Jones' accident, he was flown by helicopter to Houston's Hermann Hospital amid concerns of a possible spinal injury. But Dr. Drew Ware said Jones suffered only multiple bruises and a "couple of scrapes."

"There is no evidence of any type of neurological deficit," Ware said. But the actor will spend Friday night in the hospital for observation, Ware said.

"I'm not hurt, a little sore," Jones said through his Los Angeles publicist, Jennifer Allen.

According to Allen, the horse carrying Jones, 52, was running fast down a straightaway and stumbled, launching Jones over the horse's head. The horse then stepped on him.

Ware said Jones reported losing consciousness for a short time after the accident.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. at the Estancia Del Pueblo Viejo, a private polo ranch in Sealy, about 45 miles west of Houston.
