HOLLYWOOD, California (CNN) -- CBS is battling all the way to Mars in the war to woo viewers away from the stars on the Oscars Monday night. The network is presenting "Special Report -- Journey to Mars," an original TV movie on Monday night. Keith Carradine, Judge Reinhold, and Alfre Woodard star.

Veronica Hamel and Mimi Rogers star in a new fact-based TV movie for ABC this weekend, "In the Blink of an Eye." Veronica Hamel stars as a filmmaker who learns a close childhood friend is in jail for killing a police officer and puts her career on hold to determine the truth of the matter. "In the Blink of an Eye" will air Sunday on ABC.



It was quite a party for 13-year-old Peter Schinas of New Bedford, Massachusetts, in mid-March. Boyz II Men performed at his junior high school after Schinas was the winner of the Fox Rocks Your School contest. He was chosen from about a half million entries in the sweepstakes.

Pierce Brosnan's new project is now firm. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper indicates the actor will star in the volcano-themed action film '"Dante's Peak" for Universal.

Brook Shields is going prime time. The model and sometime actress is negotiating to do a pilot for a situation comedy for NBC. The show, "Suddenly Susan," would cast Shields as a woman who is suddenly single.



Rebecca de Mornay and Steven Weber have begun work on "The Shining." Steven King, who makes no secret of his dislike for the film version created by Stanley Kubrick, has written the screenplay for the miniseries based on his novel. The new version of "The Shining" will air next season on ABC.



Phil Hartman is joining the cast of "Jingle All the Way." The "News Radio" star will appear with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the holiday comedy.



Jim Carrey is planning a "Saturday Night Live" appearance. The high profile comic has agreed to host the final episode of the long-running comedy series, to be shot May 18. It will be Carrey's first appearance on "Saturday Night Live."

Cameras are rolling. Principle photography has started in Los Angeles on "Bulletproof," an action comedy starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler, with James Caan in a supporting role.
