Generation X

HOLLYWOOD, California (CNN) -- A spin-off from the "The X- Men" is coming to television. "Generation X," based on Marvel Comics biggest selling title, airs this week on the Fox network. The film has dozens of computer-generated special effects, and features Matt Frewer as the villain.

Sound of Music

Robert Wise sees the light. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is set to receive the Laser Beam Award from the Laser Disc Association of America at its annual awards dinner. The filmmaker participated in the special release of a "Sound of Music" disc last year, which was voted the Best Special Edition Laserdisc of 1995.

Batman

They're altering the cape and armor of the "dark knight" at Warner Brothers. The Los Angeles Times reports that Val Kilmer will not return to the role of millionaire Bruce Wayne and Batman in the sequel "Batman and Robin." George Clooney is reportedly in final negotiations to move into the Wayne family mansion.

Web surfers can get on-line with Ozzy Osbourne later this week. The 'metal madman' plans to webcast his Seattle concert over the World Wide Web, using RealAudio technology. Techophiles should note, you need RealAudio 2.0 and a 28.8 modem to hear the concert over the Web.

The Garth Brooks concert tour continues to sell tickets at a blistering pace. The singer sold out four of his shows in Cleveland in one Saturday morning. That's 79,000 tickets.

Leslie Nielson

Another screen classic is headed for a remake. Columnist Army Archerd reports a new version of "Harvey," with Harry Anderson in the lead and Leslie Nielson in a supporting role, will go before the cameras in April. The film could be aired as a CBS TV movie, or be released in theaters.

Jerry Lewis is reportedly on the mend. The comic and actor was forced to miss several performances of "Damn Yankees," which is on tour in Ohio. Spokesmen for the traveling show say Lewis had the flu.

Here's a new twist. Rather than giving yet another award to an actor, there's an award named after an actor. "Renew America" plans to give its first annual Christopher Reeve Environmental Leadership award next week. The awards will benefit the education campaigns of Zero Population Growth and the Sierra Club, and another award will be presented to Reeve himself. The actor and his family will have a hand in choosing the winners of the annual award.

A milestone for a "Miracle." Singer Smokey Robinson will celebrate his 56th birthday this month.
