HOLLYWOOD, California (CNN) -- It was opening night in Los Angeles recently, a collection of celebrities turned out for opening night of the musical "Candide" at the Ahmunson Theatre.
Three of the seven deadly sins are getting another kind of examination this month on the "Showtime" pay cable network. Joe Mantegna and Dennis Leary are starring in "National Lampoon's Favorite Deadly Sins," which promises to be much different from the disturbing psychological thriller "Seven."
Yoko Ono will not be left out of the general examination of "Beatlemania" in November. The concept artist, and widow of slain BeatleJohn Lennon, is the subject of the documentary "An intimate portrait -- Yoko Ono". The film is running on the lifetime cable network this month.
Steven Spielberg is getting ready to round up the raptors again. Daily Variety reports the filmmaker is gearing up to make "The Lost World," Michael Chrichton's sequel to "Jurassic Park" for Universal. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in September of 1996, aimed at a summer '97 release.
Carly Simon fans: attention, Arista Records is readying a disc set of classic and rare tracks by Carly Simon, covering her 30-year recording career. "Clouds in My Coffee" will also include five never-before released Carly Simon songs when it hits the racks in late November.
New laurels for Sean Connery. The veteran actor will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for outstanding contribution to the entertainment field at next year's Golden Globe Awards. The 53rd annual globes will be handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on January 21.
Tom Cruise the producer is drumming up a project for his wife, Nicole Kidman. Daily Variety reports Cruise and his production company are developing the novel "Criminal Conversation" as a movie project. Kidman is likely to star, Cruise is possible to play a supporting role.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers road trip has been postponed because the band's drummer is on the disabled list. The Peppers were set to begin in Denver, but Chad Smith broke his wrist playing baseball. Smith will be in a cast eight weeks, and the band is rescheduling it's tour.
Vacation time for a Rolling Stone. Mick Jagger and his wife Jerry Hall had a quick holiday on Banda Island in Indonesia last week, Starwatchers say the couple went diving and visited tourist attractions on the island during a two day visit.
More gold for Janet Jackson. The singer's latest single "Runaway" just went gold, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, registering sales of over 100,000 units. The latest gold puts her in record territory. She has 17 gold records in her career, more than any other female artist.
A traditional Hollywood honor for actress Kirstie Alley. The actress received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her "Cheers" co-star, Ted Danson was there to do some cheering.
