Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts has chosen her next project. The Hollywood Reporter notes the actress has signed on with Tristar Pictures to star in "My Best Friend's Wedding," which will begin shooting in April. In choosing "My Best Friend's Wedding," Roberts chose not to work opposite Chris O'Donnell in "In Love and War" for New Line Cinema.

Good news for "Caroline in the City." NBC has decided the situation comedy starring Lea Thompson is a survivor. The network has ordered a full season's worth of episodes.

The judgment is in on "JAG." The naval drama that follows the cases of the Judge Advocate General's office is going for a full season on NBC.

Bulletin for fans of "Newsradio:" NBC has ordered a full season of episodes of the new comedy series.

John Travolta

The cast for "Michael" is firming up. Daily Variety reports Andie MacDowell and, most likely, William Hurt will co-star with John Travolta in the supernatural comedy. Travolta will play a tough-talking, hard-drinking angel who smells like cookies. Hurt and MacDowell will play a pair of investigators who come to Iowa to find him ... that is, if final negotiations with Hurt's representatives work out. MacDowell is confirmed.

George C. Scott is at least temporarily joining the cast of "New York News." Columnist Army Archerd reports the actor has been cast as the newspaper's owner, and will appear in three episodes of the series.

Sinbad

A new gig for Jeff Foxworthy. The standup comic turned situation comedy star has agreed to co-host the American Music Awards show in late January. Foxworthy will share hosting duties with comedian Sinbad. The awards show, created and produced by Dick Clark, airs January 29 from Los Angeles.

Hollywood birthdays: Singer K.D. Lang is 34 this week. Actress Alfre Woodard -- currently being seen in "How to Make an American Quilt" -- turns 42.

Sweeps watch ... this weekend's episode of the ABC series "Maybe this Time" gets a little star power from daytime. Robert Kelker-Kelly -- a heartthrob from "Days of our Lives" -- makes a guest appearance on the series this weekend.
