Mattel's suing Nissan over doll spot

Mattel is not a big fan of the popular Nissan commercial in
which an action figure steals away a fashion doll with the
help of his miniature 300 ZX. The toy manufacturer is suing
Nissan, claiming the "Roxanne" doll is too close to Barbie
and "Tad" is too much like Ken.

Melissa Gilbert has some strong support from her fellow
actors in her suit against The National Enquirer. The Screen
Actors Guild has filed a friend of the court brief, an offer
to advise the court on a legal matter, in Gilbert's suit
against the tabloid. The actress claims she was defamed in an
interview with her husband published by the Enquirer. Tom
Hanks, Mel Gibson and Glenn Close are some of the actors who
have spoken up in Gilbert's defense.

Danny Devito will get to play a superhero in his latest
picture. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper indicates the
star looks to direct the film and perform in "Mystery Men."
The script concerns a group of second-rate superheroes with
somewhat bizarre abilities. Universal is negotiating with
Devito's production company, Jersey Films.
Burt Reynolds will don a new look for his latest film effort.

begin work in October on a new film called "Waterproof."
Reynolds will play an elderly Jewish shopkeeper in the movie.

Dean Cain will soon be starring in a new, cape-less role.
The former Man of Steel has signed up to co-star in a film
project for CBS written by Anne Rice, creator of "The Vampire
Chronicles." Daily Variety reports Cain would play a modern
day policeman teaming up with the ghost of a cop from the
'50s in "Rag and Bone." The film is a pilot for a series.
Adrian Paul, star of the syndicated TV series "Highlander,"
has decided to take his adventures to the big screen. The
actor will star in the next "Highlander" movie. Daily
Variety reports the actor will take over the role from
Christopher Lambert, who starred in the original hit and
several sequels.
"Third Rock" star French Stewart has a new job: pitching
Motts Clamato juice. Stewart's series of commercials, which
guarantee the beverage is 99.9 percent clam free, defend the
product's dash of clam juice.
