Former Beatle star: Today's music stinks

Web posted at: 5:29 p.m. EDT (2129 GMT)PARIS (CNN) -- Today's music scene is plagued by super groups like U2, Oasis and the Spice Girls whose tunes are "rubbish" and uninteresting, according to former Beatle George Harrison.
The good thing about the funky Spice Girls, the aging rocker says, is "that you can look at them with the sound turned down."
Harrison, 54, made his comments in a recent interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, in which he lashed out at just about anything in today's music industry.
"The only thing important is to sell and make money (these days). It's nothing to do with talent," he said.
Harrison slammed Oasis as lame. But it wasn't the first time the group, which has often been compared to the Beatles, came under attack by Harrison. Last year, he called the band's lead singer, Liam Gallagher, "the silly one."
The former Beatle was particularly harsh on the Spice Girls and U2, which he summed up as an "egocentric" band with no talent. He added that he believed none of today's musicians would be remembered 30 years from now.

But Harrison's comments aren't the first time an aging rock star has criticized a new generation's music idols. Elvis Presley, the "King of Rock 'n' Roll," once charged that the Beatles were responsible for the decline of youth in the 1960s.
"Presley indicated that he is of the opinion that the Beatles laid the groundwork for many of the problems we are having with young people by their filthy, unkempt appearance and suggestive music," an FBI agent once wrote in a memo after Presley visited the agency's headquarters.
