Minnesota sees appeal of 'Newton's Apple'

The PBS family science program "Newton's Apple" is getting its day. The state of Minnesota has recognized the long-running series by declaring Thursday, June 19 "Newton's Apple Day."

Needy children in Chicago got some help from a guitar hero Saturday night. Legendary rocker Pete Townsend performed a concert at the House of Blues in Chicago to raise money for the Maryville Academy, the largest residential child care facility in Illinois. The show took in nearly $220,000 for the academy.


Phil Hartman Phil Hartman is going interactive. The "News Radio" co-star lends his voice to the character "Captain Blasto" for a new video game developed for the Sony Playstation platform. Look for the game -- and listen for Hartman -- in October.


You'll soon be seeing a lot more of Bugs Bunny. The Oscar-winning rabbit's 32-cent stamp, which was introduced last month by the U.S. Postal Service, has been a big hit. The Postal Service has ordered another run of 100 million stamps to keep up with demand for the first-class rabbit. Bugs

Jan De Bont With "Speed 2" in theaters, director Jan De Bont has made a decision about his immediate future. Daily Variety reports the filmmaker has decided not to make the thriller "Zero Hour" in favor of another project. De Bont will instead make "Ghost Riders in the Sky," a cowboys and aliens comic adventure from the writer behind "Buckaroo Banzai" and "Big Trouble in Little China."


Former James Bond star Roger Moore will have a cameo role as a record mogul when the Spice Girls jump to the big screen, columnist Army Archerd reports. The Spice Girls' movie is now being called "Five," and shooting has begun in London.


The United Kingdom is getting its own MTV. A British version of MTV Networks Europe goes on the air in England and Ireland on July 1 featuring British VJ's and lots of music videos.


The future of "Babylon 5" hangs in the balance. Warner Brothers Television is said to be coming to a decision on a fifth season for the high-brow, syndicated science fiction series. A newspaper article speculating the end might be coming for "Babylon 5" sparked a flood of fan calls and letters. The decision will be made by mid-July.


You still can't see "The Last Temptation of Christ" in Chile. The Supreme Court in the South American country has upheld the 8-year-old ban on the Martin Scorsese movie, claiming the theological speculation is "insulting and offensive" to Christians. The movie is also still forbidden in the African nation of Madagascar.
