(CNN) -- It's the type of music that many would define as
primeval and mysterious. But indigenous performers say their
rhythmic style and lyrics are a reflection of their esoteric
culture.
"Like Indian religion, Hinduism, Indian music has no roots,
no beginning, no end," said Anil Sehgal of Zee Music, a
record label that carries indigenous music. "That is the
reason we say from birth to death, music is an essential part
of every Indian."

And it appears the rest of the world digs the ancient tunes,
with Western music stores carrying CDs from Africa, India and
Pakistan.
