From Correspondent Dennis Michael

Michelle Pfeiffer has a new project in the works for Warner Brothers. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper reports from the Cannes Film Festival that the actress will produce and star in "Waltz Into Darkness," a period film about a tobacco planter and his mail order bride. The book was made into a movie once before in French, by Francois Truffault.

"Dune," the massive Frank Herbert novel that was made into a film by director David Lynch, may soon be getting a makeover. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper indicates the Sci-Fi Channel is planning to make a six-hour version of the novel as part of its slate of original programming.

Shatner

William Shatner has been beckoned once again into the world of science fiction. The "Star Trek" actor will host an upcoming special from 20th Television and TV Guide on the history of science fiction on television. The special will air on the Sci-Fi Channel in July.

Janine Turner has been replaced by Rebecca DeMornay in the film "Pascagoula." Turner has to bow out of the USA Network movie because she is pregnant so DeMornay will play a con artist with a profitable marriage in mind in the comedy. The film was co-written and stars Oscar nominee William H. Macy.

James Woods will soon add "vampire slayer" to his ever-growing list of movie credits. Daily Variety reports the actor has signed up to play the lead vampire slayer in "John Carpenter's Vampires." Shooting begins next month in Santa Fe and New Mexico.

Neil Young may not like VH-1 airing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremonies, but he can hardly refuse being the main act. The rock legend refused to appear at the induction ceremony in Cincinatti earlier this week because VH-1 was set to broadcast it. Now VH-1 has dedicated the entire broadcast to Young and, in addition, has decided to run Neil Young videos every hour on Friday.

"The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will soon be high-kicking their way to a TV set near you. Fox Kid Network will broadcast a new live-action version of the turtles latest adventure with a new addition to the cast. A new, female turtle has joined as part of the crime fighting team.

Mark Hamill has a new film project. The former Luke Skywalker is signed up to play the villain in "Hamilton," based on a pair of successful novels about the Swedish Secret Service. Hamill will be smuggling nuclear warheads in the movie, according to the Daily Variety "Dish" column.

Disney is planning a sneak preview of its newest animated offering, "Hercules," and tickets are up for sale on the Internet. The sneak preview will be held over the weekend of June 21 and 22 and the movie officially opens on June 27. Tickets are available at www.hercules.disney.com.
