Pfeiffer waltzes into new film

Michelle Pfeiffer has a new project in the works for Warner
Brothers. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper reports from
the Cannes Film Festival that the actress will produce and
star in "Waltz Into Darkness," a period film about a tobacco
planter and his mail order bride. The book was made into a
movie once before in French, by Francois Truffault.

"Dune," the massive Frank Herbert novel that was made into a
film by director David Lynch, may soon be getting a makeover.
The Hollywood Reporter trade paper indicates the Sci-Fi
Channel is planning to make a six-hour version of the novel
as part of its slate of original programming.

William Shatner has been beckoned once again into the world
of science fiction. The "Star Trek" actor will host an
upcoming special from 20th Television and TV Guide on the
history of science fiction on television. The special will
air on the Sci-Fi Channel in July.

Janine Turner has been replaced by Rebecca DeMornay in the
film "Pascagoula." Turner has to bow out of the USA Network
movie because she is pregnant so DeMornay will play a con
artist with a profitable marriage in mind in the comedy. The
film was co-written and stars Oscar nominee William H. Macy.
James Woods will soon add "vampire slayer" to his
ever-growing list of movie credits. Daily Variety reports
the actor has signed up to play the lead vampire slayer in
"John Carpenter's Vampires." Shooting begins next month in
Santa Fe and New Mexico.

Neil Young may not like VH-1 airing the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame Ceremonies, but he can hardly refuse being the main act.
The rock legend refused to appear at the induction ceremony
in Cincinatti earlier this week because VH-1 was set to
broadcast it. Now VH-1 has dedicated the entire broadcast to
Young and, in addition, has decided to run Neil Young videos
every hour on Friday.
"The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will soon be high-kicking
their way to a TV set near you. Fox Kid Network will
broadcast a new live-action version of the turtles latest
adventure with a new addition to the cast. A new, female
turtle has joined as part of the crime fighting team.

Mark Hamill has a new film project. The former Luke
Skywalker is signed up to play the villain in "Hamilton,"
based on a pair of successful novels about the Swedish Secret
Service. Hamill will be smuggling nuclear warheads in the
movie, according to the Daily Variety "Dish" column.
Disney is planning a sneak preview of its newest animated
offering, "Hercules," and tickets are up for sale on the
Internet. The sneak preview will be held over the weekend of
June 21 and 22 and the movie officially opens on June 27.
