LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger had elective
surgery Wednesday to replace an aortic valve and correct a
congenital heart condition.
Schwarzenegger's doctors expect the 49-year-old star to
recover fully, with no lifestyle changes or restrictions,
said his publicist, Catherine Olim.
"I've never felt sick or had any symptoms at all, but I knew
I'd have to take care of this condition sooner or later,"
Schwarzenegger said in a written statement. "I said to the
doctors, 'Let's do it now, while I'm young and healthy.' They
agreed this was the way to go."
Olim said the actor was in good spirits and would rest until
the end of May, when he will begin promoting the fall release
of "Batman and Robin," in which he plays the villainous "Mr.
Freeze."
Schwarzenegger also has starred in "Conan the Barbarian,"
"The Terminator," "The Terminator II," "True Lies," "Eraser"
and "Jingle All the Way."
The Austrian-born actor has won many bodybuilding titles,
including Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia. He is married to
Maria Shriver. They have three children and are expecting a
fourth.
