A review from Correspondent Dennis Michael
(CNN) -- Close encounters of the loud and fast kind are yours in "Independence Day -- The Game."
The good news about this shoot-'em-up game is that it doesn't take a PhD in aerodynamics to fly the fighter jets here, as it does in many flight simulators. Here, it's just like the movie -- Us vs. Them.
"Independence Day" co-creator Dean Devlin says the ID4 team worked closely with the programmers to tie the movie and the game together.
"We even talked about the movie as a video game. The movie itself is like playing a video game," says Devlin. "It just seemed like a natural step to take it into that format."
For added entertainment, the battle against the invaders takes place in a variety of locations, from the Las Vegas skyline to New York to Paris. There's Notre Dame Cathedral, animated a little differently than the Disney version. And at the top level, you take an alien fighter saucer deep into the mother ship.
Mid-level gamers will agree with one of the movie's big laugh lines: "I gotta get me one of these!"
