HOLLYWOOD (CNN) -- New Line Cinema's new movie "love jones"
is a romantic comedy that searches for love in all the hip
places. The movie captured the Audience Award at the
Sundance Film Festival and is winning good reviews for its
positive portrayal of African-American characters.

"A love jones is basically a feeling that you have that's
uncontrollable," explained Bill Bellamy, who stars in the
movie as a character named Hollywood. "You feel like, 'I've
got to call this girl' or 'I want to see her. I miss her so
bad.'"
The film, directed by Theodore Witcher, features witty
African-American characters criss-crossing the black
underground poetry scene in Chicago.
"The sort of hood shoot 'em genre is kind of winding down,
and people are looking for another thing," Witcher said.
Caught up in the "love jones" is Nina Mosley, played by Nia
Long, and Darius Lovehall, played by Larenz Tate, who meet at
the Sanctuary, a popular poetry-reading spot.
The film's stars believe dance-floor exploits and tender
moments set the mood.
"This movie and the soundtrack to this movie definitely put
you in a romantic state of mind," Bellamy said.
"Plus you'll have great sex after the movie," added Long.
The film will be released nationwide on March 26.
