LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Elizabeth Taylor, recuperating from brain surgery, was told Sunday that she would likely be allowed to go home by the middle of this week, a spokeswoman for the actress said.
Taylor, who turns 65 on Thursday, underwent surgery February 20 to remove a benign brain tumor.
Doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have said Taylor is making an excellent recovery, according to her spokewoman, Shirine Coburn.
Taylor was visited by family and friends again Sunday, Coburn said.
The violet-eyed movie star -- who won best actress Academy Awards for her roles in "Butterfield 8" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" -- has had several serious hospitalizations over the years and at least 20 major operations. She nearly died from a bout with pneumonia in 1990. In 1994 and 1995, she had both hip joints replaced.
A few days before her latest operation, she attended an early birthday bash that raised money for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
