Music fans swallowed Alanis Morrisette's "Jagged Little Pill"
in whopping numbers, making it the top selling album of 1996.
The record sold 7.4 million copies. The best-selling single,
The Macarena, danced its way to 3.7 million units sold.

The dark comedy "Fargo" was voted Best Film of 1996 by the
Broadcast Film Critics. Frances McDormand, who plays the
pregnant police chief in "Fargo," took Best Actress honors
and Geoffrey Rush, who played the brilliant pianist in
"Shine," was named Best Actor.

It's official ... Jenny McCarthy, former co-host of MTV's
"Singled Out" and former Playboy Playmate, will star in her
own NBC sitcom. The executive producers of "Wings" will run
the series. McCarthy made a guest appearance on "Wings" last
year, playing the obnoxious love interest of Steven Weber's
character.

Bryant Gumbel has ended his 15-year reign as anchor of the
"Today" show with a tearful good-bye. The Artist Formerly
Known as Prince, one of Gumbel's favorite artists, was the
guest performer on the farewell broadcast. No word yet on
what Gumbel will do next.

Can Liza Minnelli fill Julie Andrews' shoes as a woman
impersonating a man impersonating a woman in the Broadway
smash "Victor/Victoria?" Only time will tell. Minnelli will
fill in for Andrews while Andrews takes a four week-break.
This is the first time Minnelli has hit Broadway since "Rink"
in 1983.

Pop group No Doubt is number one on the music charts for the
fourth straight week. The group's album "Tragic Kingdom,"
sold just over a half million copies in the latest week.
Celine Dion finished second.

Patrick Duffy leaves behind family life to battle flames as a
firefighter in a new action thriller on CBS. The former
"Dallas" star takes extraordinary measures to save a trapped
girl in the CBS move "In the Heart of Fire."

"The Hunchback of Notre Dame" has just rung in $100 million
at domestic box offices. The animated Disney film crossed
the mark on Thursday. "Hunchback" is the 13th movie released
in 1996 to take in over $100 million in domestic theaters.

Little Richard has added another accomplishment to an already
long list of achievements. The pride of Macon, Georgia, will
receive the American Music Awards special Award of Merit.
The honor recognizes outstanding contributions to the music
business. The show will air on ABC.

"Eerie, Indiana" may soon be back on a screen near you. The
fantasy adventure series has been revived by the Fox Network
after first running on NBC in the 1991-92 season. "Eerie,
Indiana" is penciled in for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings
following Fox's top-rated "Goosebumps."

Tom Cruise may soon become the first actor ever to reel in
five consecutive films grossing more than over $100 million
at the domestic box office. Cruise's latest movie, "Jerry
Maguire" has already made $60 million in three weeks and is
expected to break the $100 million mark.
