LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- There are thousands of CDs on every subject and for every taste.
This year, they're popular gifts because they're almost as easy to use as your television.
"It's less intimidating for people to shop for multimedia because
if they've got a home computer now, chances are it will support anything on the shelf,"
said Brian Regan, Director of Corporate Communications at Virgin Megastores.
You can get the dignified, like the encyclopedia "Encarta" and the "Cinemania 97" movie database, or digital music courtesy "Bevis and Butthead."
Mindless violence is always popular. The newest incarnation of "Doom" will be here just in time for the happy holiday
season. Other big sellers include "Quake" and "The Neverhood," a stop-motion clay
animation married to digital computer video. A relatively old favorite which has
become a huge hit is Berkeley Interactive's "You don't know jack!"
Girls are now being targeted with titles. Simon and Schuster has a title out called
"Lets talk about me" and Mattel has the "Barbie" disc out now. You can also try some
relatively ancient board games -- like Scrabble and Monopoly -- updated so that you can play
with someone on the other side of the Internet.
