LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- The Brady Bunch. They are as enduring as Formica, having survived 27 years of cultural upheaval and discord.
Now they're coming together for another movie. But this time around there is an interesting twist in the tale.
Tim Matheson plays Roy Martin, the father of the three girls and Carol's first husband who mysteriously disappeared all those years ago. In "A Very Brady Sequel," he finally returns and reunites with the family.
That reunion shakes up the Brady household, especially Greg. Christopher Daniel Barnes, who plays Greg, says his character begins to have doubts about his relationship with his sister, Marcia, following Martin's re-entry into their lives.
Christine Taylor, who plays Marcia, says when she first read the script, she wasn't sure how audiences would react to the storyline.
"It made me extremely nervous and apprehensive because I really felt like this is devastating," Taylor said. This is really something that could shock Brady fans all over the country but it really works."
Shelley Long, who is back in her role as Carol -- mother of the Brady brood -- admits the new film is a little more risky than the 1995 hit "The Brady Bunch Movie." But not to worry.
"Even if we touch on a dangerous area which is fun, we don't
dwell on it. So that is good. We don't get icky," Long said.
But the woman who plays loyal housekeeper Alice says Brady fans will be the true judges.
"The Bradys were such a big part of their (the fans') lives that if you treat them with disrespect, they are going to tell you about it," said Henriette Mantel.
Still, ardent fans will find that not all that much has changed. There is still the famous Brady sibling rivalry. And, yes, there's plenty of polyester, too.
