British actor Michael Caine will star as Capt. Nemo in a
television version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." The
Jules Verne classic was made into a motion picture by Walt
Disney in 1954, with James Mason playing Nemo.
Call it 'beauty and the bat.' Elle MacPherson has joined the
cast of the upcoming "Batman and Robin." The former swimsuit
model will play the girlfriend of Bruce Wayne, this time
played by TV's ER hunk George Clooney. Arnold Schwarzenegger
co-stars in the latest Batman epic, which begins shooting
this fall.

Mattel, the company that brought us Barbie dolls, will make
an Audrey Hepburn model. Four differently costumed versions
of the doll will go on sale in conjunction with the video
re-release of the 1964 film, My Fair Lady, starring Hepburn
and Rex Harrison. The dolls will cost about $100, but that
includes a Ken doll that looks like Harrison. |
The Beach Boys is the latest act to sign on for this year's
Farm Aid charity concert. The Willie Nelson-organized event
will be October 12 in Columbia, South Carolina. It also will
feature Neal Young, Hootie and the Blowfish, Martina McBride,
John Mellencamp and, of course, Nelson.

Jill Hennessey of "Law and Order" fame may be back on that
show, even though her character was written out of the last
episode -- by means of a car crash. Producer Dick Wolf says a
flashback is in the works involving Hennessey and Jerry
Orbach. |
Robin Williams will star in "What Dreams May Come," a film
described as a cross between "Ghost" and "Dante's Inferno."
It's about a man who dies but doesn't want to leave his wife.
Filming begins in the fall of 1997.
