Producer George Martin, who in the 1960s lifted the Beatles to their legendary status, is about to become "Sir George." The Hollywood Reporter trade paper notes Martin has been named on the queen's latest list for knighthood. Van Morrison is also reported on the list and will receive an Order of the British Empire, an honor the Beatles received at the height of their popularity in the '60s.

The Sci-Fi Channel will soon be getting some "stately" viewers. The Hollywood Reporter indicates White House officials have requested that the channel be unscrambled for the Camp David satellite dish, and the cable system that serves the White House has added the offering.

Barb Wire

Want to take "Barb Wire" home? Soon you will be able to. The Hollywood Reporter notes Polygram will move the action film into the home video market in late August. The film goes to video a scant 3 1/2 months after its disappointing theatrical release.

"ER" may have lost a few patients, but they aren't losing any doctors. Actress Laura Innes has decided to stay on the hit NBC series playing the hospital's feisty chief resident. She was listed as a recurring character during the show's second season.

Winona Ryder has a new project in the works. The Hollywood Reporter indicates 20th Century Fox has purchased the rights to the novel "The Trials of Maria Barbella" with the actress in mind. Ryder has a lot tied into Fox right now. She's also committed to make the fourth "Alien" film at the studio, co- starring with Sigourney Weaver.

Toni Braxton returns to the music scene. The singer is releasing the album "Secrets" this week on LaFace Records. The multiple Grammy-winner will tour with Kenny G later this year.

Will Mick Jagger's son get to hobnob with the British elite? He will if Mom and Dad have anything to do with it. The London Daily Telegraph reports that last week Jagger and wife, Jerry Hall, visited the most exclusive British private school, Eton, with an eye toward enrolling young James. He would be in good company; Prince William is a student at Eton.

Director Chris Noonan is saying "no" to a sequel to the film "Babe." The filmmaker told a film festival audience in Australia that he won't be involved with any "Babe 2" project, which he predicts will come along in a few years. Noonan is currently working on a romantic comedy that will star people.

The rock group Gin Blossoms will be celebrating July 4 in Bosnia. The Blossoms are set to perform for military personnel in Tuzla air base in Bosnia. The USO show is for troops assigned to Operation Joint Endeavor, which is stationed in Bosnia to keep the peace.
