Little Richard has a new film in the works. The rock legend will star in "Chairman of the Board," a comedy for Trimark. Richard Penniman will co-star along with Carrot Top and Taylor Negron. Shooting begins in August.
"Priscilla" will shrink for the small screen. British television is planning a situation comedy version of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." Daily Variety says the movie's creator, Stefan Elliot, is working with a UK production company on the TV version.
It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights. Yes, "The Muppets" will soon be back. ABC says the new "Muppets Tonight" series will return to a prime time slot in late June. The series will air at 7 on Sunday nights. Four new episodes are ready. Sandra Bullock will guest star.
ABC has purchased broadcast rights to a package of Paramount pictures, including several that haven't yet been made. The group includes future releases "Star Trek-First Contact," "Escape From L.A." and "A Very Brady" sequel."
It's official. "Crowded House" has broken up. Billboard magazine reports founders Neil and Tim Finn will tour together as "The Finn Brothers" in July to promote a new album under that banner.
Neither rain nor snow . . . Kevin Costner is set to star in "The Postman" (not to be confused with "Il Postino") for Warner Brothers. The film is based on a David Brin science fiction novel about a mailman who continues to deliver letters after a nuclear war -- and brings survivors hope. Shooting begins in January.
Celine Dion remains queen of the adult contemporary singles chart. Billboard magazine says "Because You Loved Me" from the film "Up Close and Personal" is No. 1 for the 12th week in a row.
Francis Ford Coppola is returning to print journalism. The filmmaker is planning to start a literary quarterly next year to cultivate young writers. Coppola published a San Francisco lifestyle magazine called City in the 1970s.
