Actor Chris Noth makes a big transition from TV to the silver screen. The former "Law and Order" star has joined the cast of "Cold Around the Heart." Daily Variety reports the film, made by the Oliver Stone production company, also will star another former TV hero, David Caruso, as well as actress Kelly Lynch. Noth has worked in two other films since leaving "Law and Order."
Actress Linda Hamilton has a new project and a big-name co-star. The actress is reported close to a deal with Universal to play the female lead in "Dante's Peak" opposite Pierce Brosnan.

Sinbad takes his brand of comedy out West. The Hollywood Reporter E-mail column says the comedian has signed up to star in "The Cherokee Kid," a comedy western for HBO.
Veteran rocker and occasional actor Roger Daltrey is back in the limelight. The Hollywood Reporter notes the rocker is playing the bad guy in the comic book adventure "Vampirella" for Showtime. Talisa Soto is cast in the title role.
Sheryl Crow is returning to high school . . . for a performance. The Grammy-winning singer will perform in July at Kennett High School in Kennett, Missouri, to help raise money for the school system. Crow is a 1980 graduate.

Jimmy Buffett is releasing his latest album, "Banana Wind," this week. The singer is doing a few concerts in the Midwest to promote the album's release this month. East Coast performances are set for August.
The hit "Third Rock from the Sun" may have made John Lithgow a household name, but it's complicating his schedule. Because of the show's success, Lithgow is limited to the period between seasons to work on other favorite projects. This spring and summer he's doing a radio version of his Broadway hit "M-Butterfly" and is looking for more New York theater to tackle during his break.

Jodie Foster may be leaving "The Game." Daily Variety reports problems have come up between the actress and the producer of the psychological thriller. The studio is in talks with Jeff Bridges to take the role opposite Michael Douglas, instead. Foster's part originally was written for a man.
Stevie Wonder is now Dr. Stevie Wonder. The University of Alabama at Birmingham presented the legendary musician with an honorary doctorate of music last weekend. Wonder was the commencement speaker.
