Michael Keaton

He's played a man turned bat; now Michael Keaton will play a dog turned human in "It's A Dog's Life." Daily Variety reports Keaton is in talks to star in the Warner Brothers/Amblin Entertainment film. The movie is about a dog who is magically transformed into a person. Keaton will be seen next co-starring with himself in "Multiplicity."




Christopher Reeve has agreed to direct a film for HBO. The movie, "In the Gloaming," based on a New Yorker article about a man struggling through the final stages of AIDS, is scheduled to begin shooting in October to air on the cable service. Reeve has been confined to a wheelchair since a horse-riding accident last year, but his career in the movies is far from over.

Vince Gill fans have something to be excited about. The country star's new album, "High Lonesome Sound," will be released next week. His last new studio album was released in 1994.



The Beatles

The Fab Four are taking the American Movie Classics channel by storm. Both "Help" and "A Hard Day's Night" have been restored and preserved over a four-year period and the '60s classic films will be shown on AMC during the fourth annual film preservation festival on the cable channel in late June and early July.



Country singer Mary Chapin Carpenter will soon become Dr. Chapin Carpenter. The singer will receive an honorary doctorate from her alma mater Brown University this spring to celebrate her contributions and achievements in the music industry.



Fastest sell in the West. ... Patti Smith sold out two concert dates at Irving Plaza, a hall that holds 1,100 people, in three minutes.



Oscar-winning composer Henry Mancini's final film score is coming to theaters. Mancini composed a score for "A Memory for Tino," based on the novel by Leo Buscaglia. The film is now ready for release, although the exact release date is uncertain. Mancini died of cancer in June of 1994.

More big names are signing up to perform at the closing of the Olympic Games in Atlanta. The Associated Press reports Little Richard and B.B. King are joining the line-up, which is topped by Gloria Estefan.



Celine Dion continues to reign on the Billboard contemporary singles charts. The single "Because You Loved Me" is number one for the tenth week in a row. And Brooks and Dunne's single "My Maria" is still sizzling. The tune is number one on the Billboard magazine country singles chart for the third week in a row.
