The rock-group-of-the-moment Hootie and the Blowfish has proven impervious to the so-called "sophomore slump." The group's second album opened at number one on the charts, according to Soundscan. More 400,000 copies of "Fairweather Johnson" sold in its first week of release.
Actor Liam Neesen is reportedly close to signing a deal for Oliver Stone's latest film "Men and Fire." The film tells the story of smoke jumpers -- firefighters who jump from planes to help douse forest fires.
Comics are preparing for the Latino Laugh Festival, with comedians Paul Rodriguez and Cheech Marin to host the special. The San Antonio festival will run the first week in June. The Showtime movie network will air the laugh fest as well.
Fans of "Chicago Hope" will be glad to know the show has been given the nod for another season. CBS is also bringing back "Cybill," "Murphy Brown" and "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman".
Actress Renee Russo will be taking the role of motherhood to another level in the new film "Buddy" from Jim Henson productions. The story casts Russo as a socialite raising a Simian ape as her son.
Actress Patricia Richardson of "Home Improvement" fame will be bringing a bestseller to television. Richardson is starring in a mini-series version of "Undue Influence" based on the legal thriller by Steve Martini. The movie will air on CBS.
What do hard-rocker Alanis Morrisette and pop queen Mariah Carey have in common? Not a whole lot besides record- breaking debut albums. Morrisette's album "Jagged Little Pill" has sold 8 million copies, tying the record set by Carey's debut.
