Chalk up yet another achievement for entertainer extraordinaire Liza Minelli. She has won an Oscar, an Emmy, two Golden Globes, three Tonys. Now she is the latest recipient of the Liberace Legend award, which celebrates achievement in the arts. She will receive the prize May 22 in Las Vegas.
What goes around comes around for actor Ernest Borgnine. Borgnine has a role in the film "McHale's Navy," based on the television show for which the actor was the originator. This time, however, he will play a supporting part. Tom Arnold stars this time around.
Country crooner Garth Brooks is not only at the top of the charts, but he's also the top concert draw. According to Amusement Business magazine, Garth is the number one draw, while Bob Seger, Rod Stewart and Ozzy Osbourne are doing some pretty good concert business as well.
If you can't wait for the movie "Strip Tease" to hit theaters, you can check it out in cyberspace. The Demi Moore flick has a place on the World Wide Web and computer users can solve a puzzle and win a "Strip Tease" T-shirt. Castle Rock Pictures, the film's creator, also is promoting the comic elements of the story.
TV's greatest villain is returning to television. Larry Hagman, the man behind "J.R." of "Dallas" fame, has sealed a deal to make a series for CBS called "Orleans." He will play (what else?) the head of an influential family. CBS has committed to a pilot for the show, though no air date is set yet.
The lead singer of "Stone Temple Pilots" has been ordered into drug rehabilitation. Scott Weiland has been placed in a live-in treatment center for four to six months after a Pasadena court learned he had used drugs within the past week.
Paul Newman may be returning to the silver screen. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper reports that the Oscar-winning actor is talking about making a film called "The Magic Hour." The modern-day detective story would be directed by Robert Brenton, the man behind the camera on "Nobody's Fool," which also starred Newman.
