LaVar Burton has found a pot of gold at the end of his "Reading Rainbow." The PBS series has been nominated for eight daytime Emmy awards. Burton himself was recently presented with an NAACP Image award for outstanding performance in an educational series.

VH-1 is offering viewers a sneak peek at Sheryl Crow's recent visit to Bosnia. The singer traveled to the war-torn country with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton earlier this month. "Sheryl Crow: A Postcard from Bosnia" airs over the weekend.

A rock singer could get to play a legend of the '60s. Daily Variety says three different producers are developing films on the life of rock 'n' roll blues legend Janis Joplin. Singer Melissa Etheridge may be in line to play her.

Danny DeVito is trying a new role on for size. Daily Variety says the actor is expected to join the cast of "LA Confidential" as the publisher of a crime magazine. The shooting schedule is still being worked out.

"KISS" fans take note. A tour date for their two-year trek across the country has been released. The band will perform in full neo-Kabuki makeup in Detroit on June 28 to kick off the tour. The Stone Temple Pilots will be the opening band.

George C. Scott is down but not out of the acting business. The actor expects to return to the stage this week after becoming ill while working on a production of "Inherit the Wind." Scott reportedly was given oxygen and sent home to rest. The theater's owner, actor Tony Randall, was Scott's understudy. He filled in when Scott left.

A makeup date is in the works for the rock group "Oasis." The band canceled a concert at the Universal Amphitheater at the last minute after guitarist Noel Gallagher became ill with a sore throat and fever. The band hopes to announce a new date next week.

Cash

There's no title in sight for Johnny Cash's new album, but plenty of hot tunes. Sources say the country music veteran has 30 tracks set for his new LP, including numbers with "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" and "Fleetwood Mac." Look for the album in late summer or early fall.

Richard Gere is used to playing the lead role in films, and his latest project will uphold that tradition. Daily Variety says filmmaker Taylor Hackford has offered the actor the lead in his Warner Brothers film, "Devil's Advocate."
