For fans of the rock group "The Cure," the long wait is over. "Wild Mood Swings," its first album in four years, is due for release. Band members say it's their best album ever. Fans can decide for themselves when it comes out in early May.
Mandy Patinkin is rejoining the cast of "Chicago Hope," at least temporarily. The actor will appear in two episodes next month, returning to the role of Dr. Jeff Geiger.

Singer Shania Twain is breathing down the neck of a country legend. Twain's album, "The Woman In Me," is tied with "Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits" for the biggest-selling female country album of all time. Twain's debut album has sold 6 million copies, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

It's not enough for him to star in the film; now Jim Carrey is one of the performers on the upcoming "Cable Guy" soundtrack album. USA Today reports that the actor, who is earning $20 million to star in the movie, performs an over- the-top rendition of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love."
Now you can bring two "Grumpy Old Men" home. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are heading for the home video racks with "Grumpier Old Men." The movie will be released on video formats in early June.
Famke Jannssen, who stole the screen as the murderous villain in the James Bond flick "Goldeneye," has a new role. Daily Variety reports the actress will play the female lead in "City of Industry" for Largo Entertainment. Harvey Keitel also stars.
Herb Alpert has a new album ... and a new label. The renowned trumpeter is preparing for the release of "Second Wind" on Almo Sounds Records, which is distributed by Geffen records. It's his first album in four years and is the inspiration for his first tour in eight years. Alpert was one of the founders of A&M records, but sold the label to Polygram in 1989.

After 50 years in the entertainment industry, Gregory Peck has retired. On his 80th birthday this week, the revered actor announced he's left acting. "I've had a 50-year run ... I don't want to wear out my welcome."
The king of soft rock is working with the man who would be king of the British throne. Barry Manilow has been named the first American ambassador for Prince Charles' trust, a charity that helps underprivileged British youth. Manilow will donate some proceeds from his tour of the United Kingdom to the charity.
Celine Dion is once again queen of the charts. The Canadian singer's track, "Because You Loved Me," is No. 1 on the Billboard singles charts for the fourth week in a row. It also tops the adult contemporary singles charts.
Diana Ross once again belongs to a trio. She will perform with tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carrerras at a gala concert scheduled this summer in Budapest at the city's 70,000-seat soccer stadium.
