Romney talks immigration

Romney discouraged a "round up" of illegal immigrants

DOVER, New Hampshire (CNN) -- At a campaign stop Tuesday, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who has been critical of the compromise on how to address illegal immigration, addressed this hot button issue and noted that he opposes a round up of illegal immigrants.

"We are not going to go and round up people here today," he said. "That is not the right course.

"I have one principle, those who are illegally here today, I would allow them to apply for permanent residency or green card along with everyone else in the entire world that wants to apply for that status. But I would not give them any special right to stay here indefinitely or a special pathway to become a citizen."
