Cooling off and heating up
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- The mercury's dropping but the anticipation's heating up. It's down to around 75 degrees outside the debate site here at the Koger Center in downtown Columbia. Add to that a slight breeze, and you've got some beautiful weather. But what's heating up is support for the candidates. Hundreds of demonstrators for the various presidential hopefuls are gathered on the four corners of the intersection of Assembly and Greene Streets, just outside the security lines, and their energy level seems to be rising. Also on the rise is the anticipation among the media here at the filing center. Will tonight's second GOP presidential debate be "The Clash in Columbia" or a much tamer get-together like the first Republican debate in California earlier this month? Only time will tell. -- CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser
