Bush to seek $30 billion for AIDS relief
The president will make the request of Congress at a Rose Garden event. If accepted, the program's funding would increase by $30 billion dollars from the initial $15 billion already approved for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, a five-year initiative which he announced at the State of the Union address in 2003. He will also announce an upcoming trip by first lady Laura Bush to four countries in Africa. She will visit PEPFAR programs on her June 25-29 trip. The request from Congress for increased funds and program extension comes during a week where the administration is focusing on many international efforts, according to the source.
