Anti-war vets group targets GOP moderates

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, above, is one of the senators a new ad is targeting.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The anti-war veterans group VoteVets.org is targeting several Republicans who face tough reelection contests with a new multi-state TV ad campaign that launched Wednesday.

The ad, featuring Major Gens. John Batiste and Paul Eaton, aims to discredit President Bush's contention that he is listening to the advice of commanders on the ground in Iraq. The group also plans to air an ad featuring retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who campaigned for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004.

The ads will aim in the home districts of GOP Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, John Sununu, of New Hampshire, John Warner of Virginia, and Norm Coleman, of Minnesota. Those senators are facing increased political pressure to break with the president over Iraq.

The group is also targeting GOP Reps. Mary Bono of California, Phil English of Pennsylvania, Randy Kuhl of New York, Jim Walsh of New York, Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri, Tim Johnson of Illinois, Mike Rogers of Michigan, Fred Upton of Michigan, and Mike Castle of Delaware.
