Richardson held judgment on Gonzales because he is Hispanic
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson admitted he was one of the last of the candidates to call for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation in part because of because they are both Hispanic.
When asked if that is the right way to make personnel decisions, he said, "That's how I felt." Richardson went on to explain that Gonzales "came from nothing. I know the guy. Did it affect that he was Hispanic in what I said? Yeah, it did, and I said so." He also said he wanted to hear Gonzales' testimony to Congress before coming to any conclusions, and now feels the Gonzales should step down. -- CNN Associate Producer Lauren Kornreich
