Obama: McCain wrong on Iraq, NBC wrong on Imus

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, told CNN Wednesday Sen. John McCain is "flat wrong" on the issue of Iraq, the same day the Arizona Republican said America is on the "right road" there.

"I have enormous respect for John McCain, but I think he is flat wrong on this issue, and I think he has been wrong for some time," Obama told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "What we have continued to see over the last four to five years is the constant presentation by the administration and prominent supporters like John McCain that we are making progress and that things are terrific in Iraq, and that's not the case."

Matt David, a spokesman for McCain's presidential campaign, told CNN that both Obama and former Sen. John Edwards, another Democratic presidential candidate, are "playing politics with our troops."

"If Senator Obama and former Senator Edwards want to end the war in Iraq, they should cut off funding tomorrow and bring our troops home," he said. "The reality of the situation is that both are playing politics with our troops and security because neither is willing to explain the catastrophic consequences of surrendering."

Regarding Don Imus' controversial comments about the Rutgers University women's basketball team, the Democratic presidential candidate suggested that NBC should sever ties with the popular radio host. NBC's cable network MSNBC simulcasts the Imus radio program each weekday.

"NBC should not be having hosts like Don Imus who are making derogatory statements towards women and minorities," Obama said. "I've got two young daughters who I hope will be athletes, and the notion that they will somehow be degraded and insulted and that would pass as humor and that NBC would be running that over the public airwaves I think is atrocious."
