Leahy: "We're not going away"
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy dismissed the White House's claim that certain emails in connection with the U.S. attorney firings have been misplaced and the Vermont Democrat told CNN Thursday he would issue subpoenas if they are not handed over.
"E-mails aren't lost, they just haven't retrieved them," Leahy told CNN's Andrea Koppel. "And I would expect them to retrieve them, or we will subpoena them." "I think that there is some feeling on parts of some at the White House that if they just kind of ignore this or stall this, or claim things are lost when of course they're not lost -- use the "dog ate my homework" excuse -- that somehow we'll go away," Leahy added. "We're not going to go away." Leahy also made similiar comments on the Senate floor Thursday. |
