Gore supporters discuss potential presidential run

Will Gore decide to throw his hat into the 2008 presidential race?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- He's repeatedly said he has no plans to run for president, but that hasn't stopped high-profile Democratic supporters of former Vice President Al Gore from discussing the prospect of another Gore presidential run.

Supporters of Gore's past political campaigns are meeting next month in Washington to talk about the former vice president's future -- the second such gathering this year.

It's not surprising Gore's supporters are holding out hope. Gore has never formally ruled out running for president again and his Academy-Awards appearance and congressional testimony on global warming gave him valuable media exposure.

Moreover Gore is out with a new book next month and he's been promoting a series of summer rock concerts around the world with a global warming theme.

So could the man who won the popular vote in the 2000 presidential race run again?

'There are a lot of Democrats that want Al Gore to run for president," CNN Political Editor Mark Preston said. "And he has the name identification and ability to raise enough money to run a credible campaign in the 11th hour."
