Giuliani camp touts financial health

Giuliani's campaign touted its financial health Friday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign touted its fundraising efforts in the first three months of 2007 and the campaign's overall financial health in a conference call Friday with the national media. Giuliani reported raising $14.7 million, from 28,356 donors.

Giuliani currently has $11.9 million in cash-on-hand, with nearly $10.8 million available for the primary race, the campaign reported in its Federal Elections Commission report. All the presidential candidates must file FEC reports on its first quarter fundraising by April 15.

The Republican presidential hopeful's campaign also reported that it spent about $5.7 million during the first quarter -- about 34% of the money it raised from January through the end of March.

In addition, Giuliani's campaign manager Mike DuHaime reported that "nearly one million" was raised on the Internet.

Giuliani's total number of donors lags far behind estimates from Democratic frontrunners Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Obama's campaign has estimated it received donations from 100,000 contributors while Clinton's has said roughly 50,000 people donated to the New York Democrat.

DuHaime attributed the comparatively lower number to the campaign's late start.

"We got a late start, so in terms of the direct mail and things of that nature, we got a later start than many other campaigns," he said. "I do believe we are going to see a higher and higher number of contributors moving forward."

"I am very comfortable and very pleased with the number of contributors we have," he added.
