Dems request "unredacted" documents on attorneys' firing

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The leading Democrats on the Senate Judiciary committee requested the Justice Department Friday provide "unredacted copies of all documents relating to the U.S. Attorneys investigation," ahead of the April 17 hearing into the matter.

Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont ; Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York; and Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-California, formally made the request in a letter to Gonzales.

"In addition to unredacted copies of documents previously produced in redacted form, we request that you provide unredacted copies of relevant documents that have been withheld from production," the senators wrote in the letter. "We are not satisfied by your selective production and unilateral redaction decisions." (Read letter [PDF] )
