Poll: Giuliani, Clinton most likely to be president
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans believe the leading presidential candidates from both parties have a good chance of being elected in the general election, a new Gallup poll released Thursday finds.

Of those surveyed, 74 percent believe former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has an "excellent/good" chance of being elected president. Broken down by party, 82 percent of Republicans believe Giuliani can be elected president compared to 75 percent of Independents, and 67 percent of Democrats.

Slightly less of the American public believes Arizona Sen. John McCain has a good chance of being elected -- 70 percent. Broken down by party, 73 percent of Republicans, 73 percent of Independents, and 65 percent Democrats feel that way.

On the Democratic side, American's feel that Sen. Hillary Clinton is the most electable with Sen. Barack Obama a close second. Seventy-four percent of those polled feel Clinton's White House bid has a good chance of succeeding compared to 71 percent who feel that way about Obama's.

But among Republican's and independents, Obama is deemed to have a better chance of becoming president than Clinton. Sixty-six percent of Republicans feel Obama has a good chance compared to 58 percent who feel that way about Clinton. Among Independents, 71 percent like Obama's chances compared to 69 percent for Clinton.

But considerably more Democrats think Clinton has a better shot at winning the White House -- 90 percent to 74 percent.

The poll, conducted on February 22-25, interviewed 1,018 adults and carries a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
