Obama touts his early anti-Iraq stance at CWA

Obama meets with CWA members Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, played up his early disapproval of the Iraq war Tuesday, in a speech to the Communication Workers of America conference.

"I am proud of the fact that I was opposed this war from the start -- that in 2002 I said it was a bad idea," the Democratic presidential candidate said.(Watch video: Democratic candidates address CWA)

Obama also trumped his Iraq proposal to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq by May 1 of this year.

"I'm proud of the fact that I've got a bill in right now that says we've got to get our troops out by May 1st -- we have to start getting our troops out by May 1st of this year," Obama said. "And have our combat troops out by March 31 of 2008. It's time to bring our troops out of Iraq."
