McCain: Should have said "sacrificed" instead of "wasted"
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said Thursday he meant to use the word "sacrificed" instead of "wasted" when discussing U.S. fatalities in the Iraq war during a Wednesday appearance on the "Late Show With David Letterman."
"Last evening, I referred to American casualties in Iraq as wasted," McCain said in the statement. "I should have used the word, sacrificed, as I have in the past. " He added, "No one appreciates and honors more than I do the selfless patriotism of American servicemen and women in the Iraq War. We owe them a debt we can never fully repay." -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney |
