Edwards campaign goes on: Joint decision to continue
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Elizabeth Edwards clearly played a key role in convincing her husband, former Sen. John Edwards, to continue his campaign for the presidency despite the recurrence of her cancer, a source close to Edwards tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley.
"Elizabeth is not going to let him get out," the friend told Crowley prior to the Edwards' announcement that her cancer had returned. "This sounded to me very much like a dual decision," said Crowley. "It seemed to be Elizabeth Edwards who said listen, you think we have it rough, I talk to people every day who cry to me about their problems. It's really important that we go on with this campaign. Because of the future of this country, it's really important." (Watch video: John Edwards says he will continue his presidential run so long as his wife's health permits it. ) |
