Does Tiger Woods have a political future?

Tiger was in Washington Wednesday, leading some to speculate on his political future.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After dominating the golf world for the last decade, is Tiger Woods considering a foray into politics?

The professional golfer, who was in Washington on Wednesday to officially announce that his foundation will host a golf tournament in the Washington area next summer, did not dismiss the possibility he might one day have political aspirations.

Asked at a National Press Club event if a political future was in the cards, the 31 year-old did not rule it out, saying he has had experience "meeting influential people in the political arena" but does not know where his "future lies."

Woods echoed his comments while meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and other congressional leaders on Capitol Hill.

Boehner tried to help out Woods, pointing to his position at the table in between him and Speaker Pelosi, noting "he looks like he's sitting in the middle now right here."

Pressed if he might explore politics in the future, Woods demurred. "I don't know what the future holds for me. Right now I've got a lot of golf. I've got a child on the way this July."

Pelosi praised Woods for his foundation's commitment to helping children and noted that Boehner, an avid golfer, was especially excited about Woods' visit to the Hill. "Mr. Boehner is a man who knows his way around a golf course," Pelosi said.

Woods replied, "That's what I hear."

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, joked about his own golf game, "Of the people sitting here....I'm the one most in need of your services."

Woods' trip to Washington comes after former basketball great Charles Barkley, who told CNN last month he was supporting Sen. Barack Obama's White House bid, was overheard telling the Illinois Democrat that Woods is "ready to become more political," according to the Washington Post.
